Weight Distributing Hitches - Makes Towing Safe And Easier

Weight distributing hitches are also known as equalizer hitches. These are usually recommended for heavy trailers. These hitches balance the trailer weight between the tow vehicle and the trailer giving you improved steering and brake control. Weight distributing hitches, as the name suggests essentially distributes the weight so that no particular part is heavily burdened.

A weight distributing hitch glides into a reciever hitch, which in turn, makes it easier to re-allocate the weight. Among the distributing hitches main parts are two spring bars with one on each side of the trailer that helps to raise and use leverage on the tow vehicle. This mechanism helps to shift the tongue weight from the back axle to the front and provides more stability during towing.

Weight distributing hitches also comes in handy if your trailers ball weight is causing the rear end of your vehicle to hang down. A weight distributing hitch restores the vehicle to its usual ride height and assures that you have full grip and perfect control over the braking and steering.

There are two main designs of weight distributing hitches, namely:
Trunnion bars: A hitch with square bars that clasp on to the center of the ball mount.
Round bars: This one comes with round bars that glide into the base of the ball mount.
