Trailer Hitch Ball - To Bridge The Gap

The trailer hitch ball is what joins the trailer or cargo to the hitch. The ball sizes vary and so do their power and capability. The larger and heavier hitch balls contain a greater capacity to carry weight than their smaller counterparts do. Made of chrome or any other hard and durable metal a trailer hitch ball is detachable and can be changed if the size does not fulfill the needs.

The Hitch balls also come in many different polishes like the chrome finish and heat-treated balls. The chrome-finished variety adds a simple touch to the look while the heat-treated gives a raw or reddish touch.

The hitch ball is usually connected to a ball mount. The ball mount is a metal square tube that glides into the receiver opening in the trailer hitch. The ball mount is fastened with a pin and clip to allow the linking of a ball for towing.

Trailer hitch ball mounts come in a wide range of sizes to correspond to different receiver hitches. Some ball mounts may be curved to let you attach the ball lower or higher than the trailer hitch opening. This is provided to assist trailers with diverse socket heights. Other ball mounts may be extra long and are useful while hauling horse trailers and other erratically shaped trailers.
